Welcome to the workshop.

A goldsmith's workshop is the place where your piece jewellery is created using a variety of tools that have barely changed in hundreds of years together with some slightly more technologically advanced machines.

I thought I would give you a sneaky peak into my workshop so when you order your special piece of jewellery you can imagine it being made just for you.

This is my bench where the majority of the work takes place using all the hand tools you can see, including the piercing saw, pliers and files. A semi-circle is cut out of the bench so I can sit as close to the peg as possible, the peg is used to support the piece of jewellery when it is being worked upon. The long tapered steel tool you can see is a ring mandrel which is used to make rings perfectly round, together with a rawhide mallet which doesn't mark the surface.

"These, above and below, make me very happy, they are a selection of tools used to form metal into domes and other forms and shapes”

The rolling mills, above, and the drawplate in the vice, below, are used to reform metal into the required form. Sheet, square wire, round wire can all be formed from melted down metal so it can be reused and remodelled into whatever you want.

One of the most important tools in the workshop is the gas and oxygen torch used to heat metal when soldering or annealing, a process to relax metal if it has become hardened due to it being worked.

“Once your special piece has been shaped, cut, soldered, filed and papered the final stage of the creation is the polishing, using a number of different mops, brushes and polishing compounds to create a textured or highly polished finish.”

And last of all your finished, beautiful piece of personal jewellery is cleaned using sonic waves sent through a liquid solution to remove any dirt, polish or metal filings.

My workshop is my favourite place in the world, partly because I love tools but mainly because I get to make beautiful things for you to express your style with jewellery designed for you.
